Breastfeeding is one of the most beautiful and intense parts of motherhood. It's also one of the most anxiety-inducing when you don't know if baby is eating enough. A well-designed tracker answers that question in real time.
Why log every feed
The pediatrician question. "How many times does baby feed per day? How long? Which breast first?" Without a tracker, impossible to answer accurately. With one, you have the answer in 5 seconds.
Managing supply. If you're pumping, tracking quantities per breast per session helps identify which breast produces more, and at which times of day production peaks.
Peace of mind. Seeing on paper that baby fed 8 times in 24 hours cuts through the anxiety of "is she eating enough?".
What a good breastfeeding tracker notes
- Start and end time of each feed
- Left / right breast (and duration on each)
- Quantity if bottle-feeding (in ml)
- Behavior after the feed (satisfied / fussy / asleep)
- Number and type of diapers during the day
Warning signs to watch for
Certain patterns in the tracker should prompt attention:
- Fewer than 6 feeds in 24h during the first 2 weeks
- Fewer than 6 wet diapers per day after day 5
- Baby not regaining birth weight by days 10–14
In these cases, contact your doctor or midwife promptly.
