Fabric handprints have one huge advantage over plaster: they're portable, washable, and can be printed on any textile. A babygro, white t-shirt, tote bag, apron, cushion… The result is personal, useful, and unforgettable.

Why choose fabric ink

  • Permanent result after heat-setting
  • Machine washable (40°C) without fading
  • Non-toxic, safe for baby's skin
  • No waiting — no mold drying time
  • Perfect as a birth gift: print directly on the recipient's item

What you'll need

  • Non-toxic fabric ink kit (stamps included) → see on Amazon{target="_blank" rel="noopener"}
  • White or light-colored textile (babygro, t-shirt, canvas fabric)
  • Cardboard slipped inside the garment (to prevent bleed-through)
  • Iron (to heat-set the ink)
  • Damp towel for immediate cleanup

Steps

1. Prepare the textile Slide a stiff piece of cardboard inside the garment so ink doesn't bleed through. Lay the textile on a hard, flat surface.

2. Ink baby's hand Apply ink evenly across the entire palm and fingers using the stamp provided. A thin layer is enough — too much ink gives blurry edges.

3. Press onto the fabric Place baby's hand flat, palm down, on the textile. Press gently and evenly for 10 seconds. Lift straight up without sliding.

4. Clean immediately Non-toxic fabric ink wipes off easily with plain water while still wet. Clean baby's hands with the damp towel.

5. Heat-set Let dry for 30 minutes. Place a clean cloth over the print and iron for 2 minutes at medium heat. The ink becomes permanent and washable.

Creative ideas

  • Keepsake babygro: print hand and foot on the same babygro with the birth date
  • Family tote bag: print each family member's hand on a large cotton bag
  • Cuddle cushion: the handprint on a white cushion, with the name written in fabric marker

Tips

  • Work quickly — fabric ink dries in about 5 minutes in open air
  • Keep a second clean stamp ready to redo if needed
  • On dark fabrics, use white or gold ink
