Getting organized with a newborn — the 5 systems that change everything in the first month

The first month with a newborn is one of the most intense experiences in life. You're exhausted, learning everything at once, and yet you need to manage a home, a baby, and yourself. These 5 simple systems make a real difference.
System 1: the always-ready night bag
A pouch or basket with everything needed for nights: one diaper, wipes, diaper cream, a spare onesie, a pacifier. Placed next to the crib. At 3am, you search for nothing.
Restocked every evening before bed. 2 minutes.
System 2: change stations
Instead of one centralized changing area, create several micro-stations in the rooms where you spend time: a basket with diapers + wipes + cream in the living room, one in the bedroom, one in the bathroom. No more walking with a crying baby.
System 3: the feed-nap tracker
Not for performance — for peace of mind. When you can't remember if baby ate 1 hour or 2.5 hours ago (because you slept 20 minutes in between), the tracker gives you the answer instantly.
Our Post-Birth Planner{target="_blank" rel="noopener"} includes this tracker for 3 months.
System 4: meals prepared in advance
In the first weeks, the question "what are we eating tonight" takes a disproportionate amount of mental energy. The solution: prepare and freeze simple meals before the birth. Soup, lasagna, curry, stew — individual portions defrosted in 5 minutes.
If you didn't have time before, ask family to bring meals rather than extra gifts.
System 5: the "one-touch rule" for baby's things
Every baby item has a fixed place, and it goes back there immediately after use. Pacifiers in the pacifier box. Comfort toys on the crib. Sleep sacks folded in the designated drawer.
It sounds obvious, but with fatigue, the tendency is to "put that there for now." That "there" becomes chaos within 48 hours.
