The silicone bead pacifier clip is one of the most popular baby DIYs right now — and for good reason. The result is beautiful, infinitely customizable, and above all safe for baby. This guide walks you through everything, from scratch, even if you've never made jewelry before.

Why silicone beads

Silicone beads are:

  • Non-toxic and approved for baby toys and accessories
  • Chewable — baby can bite them safely
  • Washable with soapy water
  • Available in an infinite range of colors and shapes
  • Lightweight — won't weigh down the pacifier

Avoid hard plastic beads, glass beads, or any non-baby-certified material.

What you'll need

  • Silicone beads (about 15–20 beads per clip)
  • Silicone or nylon cord
  • Clothing clip (BPA-free, baby-certified)
  • Silicone ring or pacifier holder
  • Scissors
  • Lighter or matches (to seal the knot)

Step-by-step

1. Cut the cord Cut 40 cm of cord — enough for about 18 beads + knots at each end. Shorter = clip too short. Longer = risk of tangling.

Safety note: a finished pacifier clip must never exceed 22 cm (EN 1400 standard).

2. Thread the beads Thread beads in your chosen order. For a balanced look: start and end with a larger bead, and play with colors in the middle.

3. Double knot on each side After the last bead, tie a tight double knot. Test by pulling hard — the knot must not move. Pass a flame quickly over the knot to seal it (nylon melts slightly and won't come undone).

4. Attach the clip and ring Thread the cord through the clip ring, fold it back on itself, and tie a triple knot. Repeat on the other side with the pacifier holder ring.

5. Resistance test Pull hard on each end. Pull on each bead individually. If everything holds — your pacifier clip is ready.

Essential safety rules

  • Never more than 22 cm finished length
  • Always baby-certified materials
  • Inspect the clip before each use
  • Never leave baby unsupervised with a pacifier clip
  • Replace at the first sign of wear
