A baby's room generates a surprising number of items from the very first months: sized clothing, diapers, care products, developmental toys, board books, comfort toys. Without organization from the start, clutter sets in fast. Here's how to create functional storage that stays beautiful.
Think in zones before furnishing
Changing zone: Changing dresser + diaper basket within reach + small wipes box + hooks for spare outfits.
Sleep zone: Crib / bassinet + music box + night light + bedtime book (just one). As few items as possible in this zone.
Dressing zone: Dresser (clothing sorted by size) + low hooks for baby coats + shoe basket.
Play zone: Play mat + toy basket + low accessible shelf (as baby grows).
Decorative storage solutions
Raffia or wicker baskets The most versatile and aesthetic storage option. Large basket for stuffed animals and comfort toys, medium basket for wipes and care products, small basket for hair accessories.

Label boxes White or kraft boxes with chalkboard or write-on labels. Perfect for KALLAX shelves. Label: diapers size 1 / diapers size 2 / bibs / socks / onesies.
Shaker hooks A row of wooden hooks at adult height for bags, baby carrier wrap, baby coat. Practical and decorative.
Floating shelves 2–3 floating shelves above the desk or dresser for baby books, small toys, and decorations. Alternate functional and decorative items.
Organizing clothes by size
The classic problem: all clothes in the same wardrobe, and you find a 1-month onesie when baby is 6 months old.
Sorting system:
- Main wardrobe: current size + next size up
- Under-bed storage box: future sizes packed away
- Donation/resale bag: outgrown sizes
Label each storage section with size and season. Review every 2 months.
DIY: personalized nursery labels
Cut shapes from thin wood (cloud, star, rabbit). Pyrograph or write with permanent marker the contents. Drill a hole, thread string, hang on drawer handle or basket.
Result: organized storage with a unique artisanal touch.
Tip: the "One in, one out" rule
By 6 months, baby receives toys from all directions. Without a rule, the room overflows in 3 weeks. For each new toy entering, send one toy out for donation or storage. The room stays breathable.
